Rescue Me -Season 6 Premiere!!!

And it is BACK! This is truly one of my favorite shows on television, a beutiful dark dramady by creator and star Denis Leary (who also acts as writer). It's back. And apparently the premiere and footage of the premiere party is being brought to us by Volkswagen and Inception (because believe it or not I AM watching it on TV, DVR mind you but TV instead of internet). I can deal with those advertisers...lets just get to the show!

He's been saved! Lou and his cousin Mickey are with him in the ambulance and...he dies. We see him fly by the Twin Towers. Ooh, that's right, the idea of this show was to tell the story of those firefighters who had to deal with 9/11. This shit is already heavy. A lot of bodies covered, a lot of people dead. And look who it is, firefighters, amonst who Tommy is now one of the fallen. Well, him and "One Nut" Nicky (it is a dark comedy afterall).

Interesting location Leary, your heaven is in an ice rink I see? That seems to be quintacintially you in a nut shell. To bad as they walk into the light, you fall through the ice into a burning building. Your life re-lived? No, you've gone to hell my freind. Where the people who died in 9/11 come back to tell you how you DIDN'T help them. "You really like to beat yourself up over that" I think to myself, but then I remember, I wasn't there for 9/11, I especially wasn't a firefighter in the thick of things, so who am I to judge anyone mental strength after an ordeal like that? Title sequence. Am I ready for season 6? I sure hope cause it's coming and not being slow about it.

Oh-oh! The firehouse is getting in trouble because they are "renogades". Cheif mentions the recession and how NY is closing firehouses...guess who is #1 on the list. "Better start looking around for another house, cause this one's on it's last goddamn legs" he says to the room.

Tommy spent a month in the hospital. so that is where we're picking it up! Good to know. Times are tense between him and cousin Mickey. Tommy rushes out of the hospital and tells himto start driving...he pulls out a bottle of booze and drives on the WRONG side of the road! OMG wtf is going on? Trying to teach him a lesson? YES. This guy used to be a preist for christs sake, lest we forget. The bottle of "booze"? Water. His point? "You know that fear you felt when traffic was baring down on us? That was one iota of the fear stuck in your daughter Katies throat, and Colleen, and janet, and mine for that matter when you died in the back of that ambulance!" The preist is putting the fear of God in him. Oh, and why did Tommy rush out of the hospital...he stole a bag of morphine. Like a BIG bag. Oh, Tommy, don't you see how what you do effects those in your life? You got the family to start drinking again, which lead to a death by drunk driving, causing the widower of that death to SHOOT YOU! Please grow this season, for everyone elses sake.

[Oh commercials...you give me the chance to write complete thoughts. Thanks!]

Firehouse cookout! Gotta get public relations going so they don't get closed out...too bad a house down the street already thought of doing it, 1st. Oh shit...Tommy face-to-face with his uncle, who shot him. And with the threat of shooting him again he tells him 2 important things: only the boys from the house, mickey and him showed up when he was laid out in the hospital (not his ex-wife or gfs), and he'll shoot him again if he starts drinking.

Visiting the family for the 1st time from teh hospital. Young Katie is happy to see him, Janet's not. She punches him in the arms he got shot in. That's mama bear protecting her cubs right there. She still loves him so much, so much so as to invite him to keep drinking, but only at her home where she can keep an eye on him. And as she's laying into him, she mentions Franco, one of the hunky guys in the firehouse, that came to help her out, he gets classically jealous, and she asks "How's your shoulder?" Tommy "Sore" Janet *punches him in the arm again* She is not having his jealous shit in her house. you go girl. Not so great though seeing the older daughter walk into the kitchen just to poor herself a glass of gin (not a shot, a glass). "She drinks here now" Janet tells Tommy..."I don't have a drinking proble" Colleen says as she walks back to the room, "It's gentetic" Janet says...comedic gold coming from daughter to mother "So's being a bitch, bitch." Beat. Janet "I'll be right back" We all know whats about to happen between those too...mother-daughter fight!!!

Franco is interested in what Tommy saw when he died. Isn't that the question. Sean read a book! Ok, well like two chapters, which scared him so bad he gave it to Franco, who when he brought it up Sean would cover his ears and go "la-la-la".Oooh, we get to hear what these guys' personal heavens and hells are. guy talk, I love it soo much. Tommy's back! Tommy confronts Franco, and he makes it a Puerto Rican thing. Why does it always have to get racial colored folks? Sometime Whitey just hates on you because of you, not the color of your skin! Though Tommy does say "Well, it's the Puerto Rican hunk thing".

Tommy's gonna take the blame for the shooting in their bar [the guys all went in on a bar together], and they're gonna let him? Just kidding. They work as a team, no one guys gets the blame for everything, and besides they did all watch him get shot. That happened. Even the captain was there.

Fire bells ring, and Lou confronts Tommy. "I don't believe your story, that you saw nothing...you saw something that scared the hell out of you...did you go to hell"...tommy *non-verbal response*...Lou "I'll take that as a yes". You can indeed my friend. Let's hope Tommy opens up to you, your his best buddy afterall.

Guys go to the call, and Tommy is left alone...with his dead cousin Jimmy (if you don't watch this show, Tommy's cousin died in 911 and he's sort of been seeing him ever since. The game of is it insanity or an actual ghostly visitation has been played with all 5 seasons so far so that it's up to the viewer to determine if Tommy is crazy or that the ghost is real. I think it depends on the day and situation personally). "Where'd you go T?" first question outta his mouth, after all Tommy was following him up in Heaven before he fell though the ice. 343 people in the rink with him. Some of the things people have been saying make me think that this season may just be the way Tommy deals with having died. I think he might be dead...the talk with his cousin was a dream. Ok.

Sheila is starring at him as he sleeps, crazy bitch. WHOA! She thought about pulling the plug on him while he was in the hospital, while she cozies into his arms. WHOA! Sheila is cray-cray for real. How has this actress not gotten an Emmy yet? She plays the insanity-socialite-greif stricken widow like a pro. Oh, and she wants her son Damien out of the house...and Tommy has to get him to do it. "What give you the balls to think I owe you a thing like that?" Sheila: "You're still breathing aren't cha?" Crazy bitch...and yet as she walks away he looks at her sweet ass, some things never change.

Tommy is in a bar...but so far in the episode has turned down every drink he's been offered. He's on the no fly list in the bar...so he's been given a water. Oh, and he's the bar celebrity for having been shot in there. They even made a drink called the bloodshot mary two shots of vodka, tomato juice and an empty shell casing...$12. Uncle is watching Tommy at the bar "The shooter everybody" exclaims the new bar owner, Tommy's OTHER cousin Eddie (this show really is about family). Tommy can't deal with all this pressure, he needs a drink, but can't get a free one at the bar anymore, plus teddy is watching...

...so he goes to church! And drinks a bottle of booze he swiped from the bar. Yeah that happens. Drinking and thinking, that's what Tommy is doing, drinking as he looks up at the image of Jesus on the cross. Good Irish Catholic. Mickey told him earlier he's not a rebel, he's just a drunk (he's too old to be a rebel, they die young), but he gets up and sits at the head chair at the church, and uses one of the candles to light his cigarette, toasting the empty church. That seems like a rebel to me. Apparently to him too, that was a fantasy, cause we see from behind Tommy at the table (so looking out into the congregation) Tommy is still seated in the pew, drinking and thing alone, and sadly.

The End. Except that as a part of the episode they run this series of titles:

Dedicated to the Memory of our Friends and Colleagues
Danny Aiello III
Paul Anderson
Christopher Hernandez

^ That right there is what the show is all about. beautiful first episode you guys. It really broke the new tradition of using the first couple of episodes of a season as simply setup for what the season will be like. this was an episode as good as any in the middle of the season and yet it does excite me and get me ready for what's coming up. Denis Leary it isa pleasure to have you back on my screens and I cannot wait to spend my summer with you! And kickass trailer for the rest of the season. And good to hear the actors talk about whats coming up this season. I cannot wait!
