Interesting location Leary, your heaven is in an ice rink I see? That seems to be quintacintially you in a nut shell. To bad as they walk into the light, you fall through the ice into a burning building. Your life re-lived? No, you've gone to hell my freind. Where the people who died in 9/11 come back to tell you how you DIDN'T help them. "You really like to beat yourself up over that" I think to myself, but then I remember, I wasn't there for 9/11, I especially wasn't a firefighter in the thick of things, so who am I to judge anyone mental strength after an ordeal like that? Title sequence. Am I ready for season 6? I sure hope cause it's coming and not being slow about it.
Oh-oh! The firehouse is getting in trouble because they are "renogades". Cheif mentions the recession and how NY is closing firehouses...guess who is #1 on the list. "Better start looking around for another house, cause this one's on it's last goddamn legs" he says to the room.
[Oh commercials...you give me the chance to write complete thoughts. Thanks!]
Firehouse cookout! Gotta get public relations going so they don't get closed out...too bad a house down the street already thought of doing it, 1st. Oh shit...Tommy face-to-face with his uncle, who shot him. And with the threat of shooting him again he tells him 2 important things: only the boys from the house, mickey and him showed up when he was laid out in the hospital (not his ex-wife or gfs), and he'll shoot him again if he starts drinking.
Franco is interested in what Tommy saw when he died. Isn't that the question. Sean read a book! Ok, well like two chapters, which scared him so bad he gave it to Franco, who when he brought it up Sean would cover his ears and go "la-la-la".Oooh, we get to hear what these guys' personal heavens and hells are. guy talk, I love it soo much. Tommy's back! Tommy confronts Franco, and he makes it a Puerto Rican thing. Why does it always have to get racial colored folks? Sometime Whitey just hates on you because of you, not the color of your skin! Though Tommy does say "Well, it's the Puerto Rican hunk thing".
Tommy's gonna take the blame for the shooting in their bar [the guys all went in on a bar together], and they're gonna let him? Just kidding. They work as a team, no one guys gets the blame for everything, and besides they did all watch him get shot. That happened. Even the captain was there.
Fire bells ring, and Lou confronts Tommy. "I don't believe your story, that you saw nothing...you saw something that scared the hell out of you...did you go to hell"...tommy *non-verbal response*...Lou "I'll take that as a yes". You can indeed my friend. Let's hope Tommy opens up to you, your his best buddy afterall.
Tommy is in a bar...but so far in the episode has turned down every drink he's been offered. He's on the no fly list in the bar...so he's been given a water. Oh, and he's the bar celebrity for having been shot in there. They even made a drink called the bloodshot mary two shots of vodka, tomato juice and an empty shell casing...$12. Uncle is watching Tommy at the bar "The shooter everybody" exclaims the new bar owner, Tommy's OTHER cousin Eddie (this show really is about family). Tommy can't deal with all this pressure, he needs a drink, but can't get a free one at the bar anymore, plus teddy is watching...
...so he goes to church! And drinks a bottle of booze he swiped from the bar. Yeah that happens. Drinking and thinking, that's what Tommy is doing, drinking as he looks up at the image of Jesus on the cross. Good Irish Catholic. Mickey told him earlier he's not a rebel, he's just a drunk (he's too old to be a rebel, they die young), but he gets up and sits at the head chair at the church, and uses one of the candles to light his cigarette, toasting the empty church. That seems like a rebel to me. Apparently to him too, that was a fantasy, cause we see from behind Tommy at the table (so looking out into the congregation) Tommy is still seated in the pew, drinking and thing alone, and sadly.
The End. Except that as a part of the episode they run this series of titles:
Dedicated to the Memory of our Friends and Colleagues
Danny Aiello III
Paul Anderson
Christopher Hernandez
^ That right there is what the show is all about. beautiful first episode you guys. It really broke the new tradition of using the first couple of episodes of a season as simply setup for what the season will be like. this was an episode as good as any in the middle of the season and yet it does excite me and get me ready for what's coming up. Denis Leary it isa pleasure to have you back on my screens and I cannot wait to spend my summer with you! And kickass trailer for the rest of the season. And good to hear the actors talk about whats coming up this season. I cannot wait!
